These Infinite Spaces

The eternal silence of these infinite spaces fills me with dread (Pascal)

The first gig our new band had was at Heathcote Services & Citizens Club. I don't know who organised the gig, but it was probably Andrew's Dad. I think he organised most of our gigs, though I seem to recall that Jarrod organised a couple as well.

I was pretty pleased with the venue because it was local and because we were getting paid. It was still pretty rare to get money for a gig, so I felt pretty fortunate about the latter point. Little did I know that we would never play a free gig again.

I recall that we brought a good crowd in - there were lots of people from Heathcote and Engadine High. We also had lots of relatives in attendance. All our parents were there (which was rare), and all three of my sisters were there too, along with their partners. The return of The Catch was a big deal!

Our set had transformed a bit over the last few months toward heavier guitar music, rather than the keyboard pop we'd been doing before. I'll write out a list of songs in a later post, but I will say that the Hoodoo Gurus featured prominently.

How did we go? Looking back, I have to say that it wasn't our best gig ever. There were still a lot of combwebs that needed to be shaken off. After all, we hadn't played live for nearly 9 months by that stage. However, the feedback was pretty encouraging, so we felt good about doing further gigs.

All in all, we'd made a good start and were looking forward to the future. Then Justin dropped a bombshell on us - he was leaving the band.
