Wuthering Heights
Watched the first part this evening and enjoyed it a lot. Rather creepy. That grave-digging scene - was that *really* in the book..??

Calvin for Armchair Theologians
I've been listening to this recently, and it is excellent. Very good writing, and a surprisingly thorough analysis.

Capitalism: A Love Story
Watched Michael Moore's latest film tonight with a mate. It was a reasonably entertaining flick, though the subject matter was pretty dry. He did not convince me that capitalism really is a very terrible thing, and I don't know that Moore really believes that himself given his love affair with the American working middle class of the 50s. What he does show is that the real enemy is greed, a human constant which cuts across political parties and economic theories.
Star Wars Uncut
http://www.starwarsuncut.com/These guys have split Star Wars up into 15 second segments, and are asking fans to submit home made versions of each segment. Pretty funny

Moore College
Just been reminded a few times in the last week or so of what an incredible resource we have in Moore College. We really need to do everything possible to help it continue to thrive...

Hey Hey...
Watched the "Hey Hey It's Saturday" encore on Saturday night with the girl and the boys. A bit embarrassed to admit that I was completely entertained by it, and watched the whole 2.5 hours...

Compass
Compass did a special on Sydney Anglicans tonight. I thought it handled the material pretty fairly. What did you think?
Eternity Newspaper
I got a print copy of the new Eternity newspaper this morning. I think it's excellent - well done to John and the team. I'm looking forward to reading this every month - I hope and pray it goes really, really well...

More study
I'm seriously thinking about doing a masters degree, to progress my career and also for my own stimulation. It wouldn't be next year, as I'm determined to finish my book, but possibly in 2011. The course I'm looking at is only 8 subjects, and I could possibly get exempted from 1 or 2 of those. The cost is significant, but I believe the fees are tax deductible? Anyway, it would be spread out over a number of years...
The shine is rubbing off Chrome
Hmm...didn't take long. Not quite as quick as it seemed at first. Seems to pause for no reason sometimes when loading a page. bleah

Women & Boards & Committees
Karin calls for more women on the SA boards & committees. I support this, and hope more can done. I will make this comment though - I've noticed that women are sometimes less interested in committees than the blokes are. At the parish level, it has been very difficult to find women who want to serve on parish council, and I don't think any woman has ever wanted to serve on our finance/property committees. Individual preference plays a part here...

Gone Chrome
After I upgraded to Firefox 3.5.2, it started going slow. Real slow. The reason I dumped IE for FF in the first place was because IE had become a bloated, slow-moving software monster. Now FF seems to be going down that path as well. Well, it was going slow on my computer at least. So I've installed Google Chrome. Nice, very nice. Slick and fast. Goodbye FF. You forgot what made you a success in the first place...

Sydney's Fresh Food Bin
SYDNEY households throw out more than $600 million worth of fresh produce every year - and that does not include leftovers, which account for another $182 million in the bin, university research has found. More here

Book on Hold
Work has been pretty intense recently, so my Johnson book is currently pretty much on hold. Current state of play is this - I've written 9 chapters (out of a planned 21), totaling 24,839 words.

E=MC2
Another superbly crafted documentary, currently screening on free-to-air. I know it's sounds snobbish, but it's a bit tragic that millions watch mindless trash like "2 and a half men" while only a few will watch this doco...
Stand to Reason
A popular apologetics website. I haven't looked into it too much, but I've heard pretty good things about it.

The Boy is away
It's school holidays, and J is spending a week at his mother's place. I'll be up here on my lonesome. I miss him quite a bit when he's not around, even though we sometimes feel like ships passing through the night when he *is* here...
Life on Mars
Just started watching this, 2 years after everyone else got excited about it. It's very good...
The White Horse Inn
Just about my favourite radio prog is The White Horse Inn. I wish there was an oz equivalent! They are currently beginning a series on Koukl's "Tactics". Also, don't miss Horton's interview with Carl Trueman, called "The Wages of Spin". Terrific stuff...
Live Out Loud
Connect09 are hoping 8000 teens will attend the EntCent in December. Steve Chong will be preaching, which is the right choice!

lols
A five-year-old Texan boy has reportedly killed a 3.7-metre, 365-kilogram alligator that was 20 times his size.
Simon Hughes shouted "holy moly" when he saw the beast, but killed it with a single shot from his "junior-sized .410-gauge shotgun", the Houston Chronicle said.
"I wasn't even afraid," he told a local TV network. "Next year I'm going to kill me a bigger alligator."

Official Building Opening
Our new church building is finished - here is the video from the official opening.
Networks - men and women
Narelle discusses the different ways in which men and women network. Really fascinating stuff -
I have observed that there is a vast difference between men and women in the way in which men are able to use their networks to pursue appointments, uncover possibilities and even to be able to persuade leaders to rethink what they might need in the light of what they as applicants can offer.
