Nothing but the blood...

Just got back from our church weekend away. It was called "Nothing but the blood..." and the theme was Penal Substitutionary Atonement. We had 5 very good sermons on PSA, it was a gospel feast. I'll post links when we publish them on the web.

I got a late call Friday evening asking if I could play bass - the scheduled bass player had been forced to drop out at the last minute. That was fine, and I had a lot of fun with the music. We did 2 new songs from Sovereign Grace - Endless Praises and His Forever (click here). Both worked really well, great lyrics, good melodies, easy to play. You should be checking these guys out.

Saturday night was organised fun night, which usually fills people with a bit of dread. We all rocked up and got told the nights activity was...interpretive dance. I'm not joking. Everyone was a bit horrified. Anyway, they divided us into 7 groups, and gave each group a short bible passage and some music. We then had 15 minutes to come up with a dance interpretation of the passage.

Guess what? It was brilliant fun. We have lots of creative people, and inhibitions were quickly discarded. Some of the dances were terrific, all of them were hilarious. They were all recorded, though I suspect the video will not capture what a blast the whole thing was. I'll link to the YouTube if it comes out any good.

As is usual on these things, I met a few people I didn't know, and deepened relationships with a few people I'd only met in passing. A fantastic time away. I hope your church camps are as much fun...

Notwithstanding the success of our interpretive dance team, and my conspicuous contribution in particular, I'd be horrified to see it on YouTube. Those pirouette's were not intended for an Internet audience.

Great to hear your w/e away was good. I like to play bass occaisionally as well...good fun.

We do some Sov Grace, but not enough in my opinion. I dowloaded Valley of Vision last night. I really like it.

Our w/e away is next weekend. I have been asked to run a session on being the missional church which will be a challenge.

Glad it was fun and you got a lot out of it (both talks-wise and relationships-wise), but is it wrong of me to think a weekend away of 5 sermons on Penal Substitutionary Atonement and a night of participatory interpretive sounds a little, well... odd? :)

I don't mean to denigrate the experience in any way, I'm sure spending a weekend away with your church peeps would be a blast, but I just find the pitch of 5 PSA sermons and interpretive dance a little hard to get my head around.. heh.
